I <3 Boone

Sounds Awesome! I put an un-official offer out to Swollen Members, A rap group based out of British Columbia, who has played Denver, Boulder, Aspen, and Breckenridge and has a very solid following here at DU. We are just waiting back to see if the band accepts- but they are with Windish and their agent is extremely interested in the show! Im in Fl from 7/3- 7/6- Ill be in touch next week and maybe we can set up a meeting with whomever is in town and phone in Sam to get the ball rolling on anything that needs to start getting done on our end.
All the best yall!

Summary of Meeting with Angel

As I mentioned, I met with Angel yesterday and we talked about the concert a bit. She had spoken with Stu Halsall on Monday and had some updates for me. Here is what we discussed.

1) There is a load capacity for the lacrosse field, so Angel will get that weight from Stu and then I will be able to contact Richter Scale for a site visit. We can plan to set the stage up on the west end of the field facing the Ritchie Center as there is a point of access on the NW corner of the field (Behind the Cable Center) where the fence can be taken out for load-in/load-out. (Sam, remember this was one of our concerns after you and I met with Angel. It looks like it will work but I'll have to let the Richter Scale folks take a look at it for the final say.)

2) We have the field booked from noon on the day of the event. Apparently there is something else happening in the morning, so we can't get on the field earlier. That means load in will start around noon and, if they move as quickly as they did for MusicFest, we should be able to do a sound check by about 4pm.

3) There is a soccer game that afternoon at either 4 or 6pm (Angel will confirm) and it will last 2 hours. We cannot do sound check during the game, so it needs to be done before or after (preferably before, with a break for dinner and then the concert).

4) We will work with Richard at Athletics to secure parking near the Ritchie Center for the artist(s). Someone from the concerts committee/staff will have to staff that area at the appropriate time. Nothing to worry about at this point.

5) Athletics is not charging us for the use of the field (HOORRAAYY!!) but there will be a small charge for custodial services related to cleaning of bathrooms, etc. following the event.

6) We need to speak with Joe from Sodexho about concessions. Stu thinks it is a good idea to work with them to sell beer and probably their normal "stadium food" for the event. This takes that element of it out of our hands (which is a good thing). It could mean that we have to limit food vendors, however, or limit what/how much they can serve (especially if it is free). Again, we can talk about this but you should start thinking about what kind of vendors you would like to have there.

7) Athletics would probably like to have their merchandise kiosk set up with the other vendors to sell t-shirts, etc. Since it is in conjunction with on-sale for hockey tickets, this would make a lot of sense. They should not be charged for having a kiosk at the event.

8) They were very clear that although they are not charging us for facilities, they are also willing to provide whatever additional support they can to make the event successful. You will need to be fairly specific about what you are asking for - money? what amount? merchandise? etc.... - but they want you to know that their goal is to help you all make this a great event that also gets people to the on-sale camp out.

9) I am going to contact REI and Sports Authority at some point to see if they are willing to donate sleeping bags and/or tents that we could give as prizes during Pioneer Picnic (earlier that week) and/or at the concert for people who plan to camp out. Angel liked this idea, too.

Well, that's all I've got for now. If you think of anything else you'd like me to talk with them about, please let me know. Obviously, we'll be closed this Friday for the holiday, and then our office will be closed next Thursday and Friday for our staff retreat. Other than that, I am around.

Hope you're all enjoying your summer and your cool jobs/internships. Have a happy and safe 4th of July weekend and I'll talk to you soon!

Take care,
Kerrie

Meeting with Angel tomorrow... (7/1/08)

Hi everyone,

I will be happy to take any questions from the group to our meeting. :)

I hope you are all having a great summer!
Talk to you soon.

GREAT NEWS!

Hey all... 2 items of good news.

1) We have the clear to use the old Boone in our PR and naming and imaging, etc.
2) Athletics was all for the concert leading up to hockey ticket on-sale date and has given us the go ahead to use the lacrosse field for the event and has reserved it for that date.

At this point in time I think it would be appropriate to start getting ideas for the logo. Ross you mentioned your friends was good with DMS stuff. If anyone is or knows anyone who could help out... Please let them know. It is going to be called Boonestock and we will be using Boone's image.

We are still pursuing bands and hope to have a better idea of a headline in the next 2 weeks. I will follow up on the blog.

Things are moving along!

This is a great idea!

Hey Concerts!
I really like that you have set this up as a communication tool for your committee. Good thinking!
I look forward to working with you on putting together a GREAT event for the fall!
Talk to you soon.
